Bedsheets and bathrooms
11.2017 After Maria, we visited one of our residents to bring him new clean sheets and to check on him after the storm.
COREFI helped this man, who is blind, by building him a bathroom so that he could live in sanitary conditions.
At our visit, he showed us that the steel room of his bathroom was damaged in the storm. With the help of your COREFI donations and volunteers, we will be back to fix it.

Nightgowns, hugs, & hospital beds
Ana Sonia Ventura and Sarah Patterson visited a 96 year-old Viequense woman on the North side of the island in November 2017.

Previously COREFI contributed a positionable hospital bed, a commode, and new bedclothes to this resident.
"COREFI essentially loans medical equipment to our clients until it is no longer needed," says Sonia. "Then we clean and recycle the items and give it to the next family with a need. We are very happy to take people's wheelchairs or appliances, and connect them with a new home. Many of our clients need refrigerators for medication, we make use of everything we can. "

Helping a Child with Asthma
COREFI and Veterans Disaster Relief provided a life-saving generator and nebulizer for 5 year old
COREFI collaborated with Veterans Disaster Relief to supply a 4000 watt generator, complete with a lock, chain, oil, and fuel to a family with a 5 year old asthmatic daughter. Since September 2017, when Hurricane Maria devastated Vieques, the child and family were relying on a neighbor to transport them and the nebulizer to the main plaza all the way from their neighborhood on the northeast side of the island. Often having asthma attacks in the middle of the night, the family would need to travel to the main plaza during the middle of the night to use the municipal power source to run the life saving device.
